Once again, problems…

For the uninitiated: the problem lies with our ISP, not with our computers, nor with our router or with our modem. It’s been going on OVER MANCHESTER for well over a week now… and no sign yet that there’s any kind of remedy for it. If this problem persists (random disconnections and seriously slow browsing) Audio Coffee will have to not broadcast at all and everyone will have to make do with JUST the podcast.

See below for the headphone/microphone situation…

At first, it was the microphone…

and finding a replacement has been nigh on impossible… need one that works with the mixing deck, not the ‘line in’ port.  None of the remaining mics we have are fit enough for the job. A replacement will be sought out once we’ve sorted out yet another issue which this week has seen the death of three sets of headphones…

My old pair died last Sunday, a few days after another set had finally bit the dust… so I grabbed my old faithfull spare headphones out.. oh yeah, they worked.. for about 3 days?! Now the left side only works and they’re doing a fine job of amplifying outside noise, so watching tv with them on or listening to music is a definite nono…

So, I’m left now with earbuds…… and not the best ones around either… yeah we did have some more around, but… they broke too…

It’s just NOT been our year for heaphones and microphones.

Thankfully, I can still edit stuff and do what needs to be done, but, just at a slightly lower volume and a need to buy more headphones.

I do have a third set, but these will not be seeing the cold light of day if I can help it. They’re incredibly old and act more as a giant headclamp than anything else – I get blisters lining my ears they’re so tight, but at the same time, there’s nothing can be done to loosen them up a bit to stop them from doing that. Plus, right now, I have no idea where they are. However, I will try and find them during the week just to prove to myself they are indeed incredibly restrictive and hurty….

Our first priority in June will be to locate 2 good pairs of headphones and one decent mic… it’s a tall order on a short budget, but, we do need these things….

My old headset mic bought 10 years ago – that is still going well… it’s not good enough for broadcasting purposes through a mixer, but it’s great for picking up every single external sound there is – it’s what I use to record ‘the dawn chorus’ around here – even though, currently, 90% of the dawn chorus this year is a load of sparrows and their fledglings – and I do sense there are more on the way… sparrows are by no means ‘quiet’, least of all their kids! :-D

For now, all broadcasting will be controlled here, but with the wonderful addition of TTS voices – they seem to like the job, so why not? They might not get on with each other all the time, but at least they’re awake on Sundays and don’t demand payment for services to broadcasting (phew!) and they seem to be pretty popular characters… I may have a job for them later on in the year… we shall see!

For now though, I’m just hoping my earbuds hold out until the summer..!
